Through open and honest negotiations I intend to permanently resolve the issues that separate Foster City and the rest of the elementary and high school districts. Foster City deserves a "fair shake", nothing more and nothing less. I have developed a plan that will assist the elementary school district in completing the Audubon LGI room and other maintenance projects. I have also established a line of communication with the high school district superintendent.
The City Council, our Community Development Agency, the property owners and their tenants must all work together to redevelop our deteriorating neighborhood shopping centers. Modern "mixed-use" retail and affordable housing projects will be good for business and the residents. The reconstruction of these properties is vital if we are to meet our moral and legal obligation for more affordable housing in Foster City and remove the blighted properties from our community.
I want to complete the master planning process for our 41 acre Civic Center that will provide for city facilities, the PJCC and a private high school. The council must do everything possible to involve all of the "stakeholders" throughout the entire process so that the entire community can support the resulting plan. I believe it is time to involve both the high school and community college districts in the plan.
I intent to preserve and strengthen the financial success of Foster City through the proper management of resources, appropriate expenditure controls, and continuing development of tax producing commercial properties. The city is prosperous and we must keep it that way.
I want to continue the cooperative attitude between Councilmembers that has resulted in a period of tremendous progress for our community. While no City Council can totally agree on everything, civility and courtesy between members remains imperative.
