Ninteen years ago my wife and I moved to Moss Beach because the housing was affordable. We never anticipated that we would come to love the community and choose to raise a family here. The open space, the ocean and my friends in the community have kept me here, and I expect, will continue to keep me here for a long time. My association as a volunteer with the Point Montara Fire Department was a natural outgrowth of my Fire Service education and my first career as a San Mateo Firefighter. Through the volunteer firefighters association, I have been able to offer the community the very tangible public service of Boy Scout and Little League sponsorships. Although I left the professional fire service to enter the health care field, I am still a volunteer firefighter. I can frequently be seen with the regular fire department crew providing whatever assistance is needed.
As I mentioned above, I am a health care provider, a chiropractor, and, a businessperson. I pay bills, taxes, insurance, take care of employees and try to make a profit to support my family. Some say the fire department should be run as a business. I disagree. There is no such thing as profit in the public fire service, and the district should not collect from you any more than it needs.
