Statement of CONNIE ROGERS, Candidate for Member, City Council Occupation: Incumbent Education and Qualifications: Gilroy Resident 31 Years, B.S. University of Vermont It has been my privilege to serve you since 1993, I have worked to: * hold residential growth to established limits while increasing the supply of affordable housing * begin train station restoration project * obtain $89,000 in new sidewalk funding * decrease the crime rate by 12% in 1996 * increase recycling programs to include mixed paper and yard waste * enact our blight ordinance requiring commercial and industrial owners to maintain their property My goals for 1997-2001 are to: * update our General Plan with strong citizen involvement to create the quality of life we want for Gilroy * restore our historic train station as a useful transportation hub * increase train service and improve transportation * expand our library with funds from the county library system I will work to prevent sprawl, renew downtown, preserve our natural heritage, create a balanced economy with jobs for our residents and promote partnership with our schools.
